A Guide To Patterned Flooring.
Flooring is undoubtedly one of the most important elements of an interior and getting the right look is essential. Patterned flooring is simply anything outside the standard plank format, from a subtle Herringbone pattern to more complex geometric designs for a real statement piece. Dating back to the early 17th Century they have been used for centuries throughout Europe and the World in grand buildings, palaces and regal homes alike.
Today patterned floors are one of the strongest trends in flooring and continue to soar in popularity every year, creating a unique style in both contemporary and traditional design schemes. We offer classic formats and bespoke designs on request. Each one hand crafted to order by our skilled craftspeople using the highest quality sustainable Oak, responsibly sourced from European forests. Discover just some of the many patterned floors available below.
Herringbone
Named after its resemblance to the skeleton of a herring fish, the herringbone pattern has been used as a design pattern in jewellery and fabrics for centuries. Herringbone was first adopted by the Romans as a method to create extremely durable and stable road systems and has since become one of the most well known and popular styles of parquet flooring, used in some of the most stylish interior spaces.
Chevron
One of the most popular styles in home design, this pattern is similar to the herringbone format but each block is usually cut to a 45 or 60 degree angle creating a much calmer look. When pieced together you get a beautiful ‘V’ shape creating a distinctive pattern of straight lines in the finished floor.
Versailles
Formally known as Parquet de Versailles, this can be laid as a panel or as a continuous pattern. This unique pattern was named after the special design that was installed in the Palace of Versailles in Paris, France dating back to around 1684. We hand cut each element in our boards for a truly authentic finish. Panels are typically produced in 900mm x 900mm but we can make them to bespoke sizes to compliment your space or produce the individual components to install onsite as a continuous pattern for something even more special.
Chantilly
For a more contemporary look you may want to opt for Chantilly, named after the floors found in the Chateau Domaine de Chantilly. This pattern is usually produced in 900mm x 900mm panels but can be made to any desired size or can be produced to be laid as a continuous pattern installed on site. We hand cut each element in our boards for a truly authentic finish.
Mansion Weave
A beautifully intricate parquetry design using small blocks that surround a hexagonal element. Flowing as a continuous geometric pattern across your space. Every element is hand cut in our weaves for a truly authentic finish and supplied individually to be pieced together on site. A real statement piece that is guaranteed to make an impact.
Squares
For something a little different our squares offer a unique format unlike anything else, a subtle pattern that can add real interest to your space. With the natural grain running in multiple directions this allows the light to pick up the texture in each block adding depth to the floor. Squares work equally well in both traditional and contemporary interiors.
